How to read a multiplication chart

Find the first number in the left column and the second number along the top row. The square where that row and column meet is the answer. For example, row 6 and column 7 meet at 42, so 6 × 7 = 42.

The square numbers run diagonally from the top-left corner: 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, 100, 121, 144, 169, 196, 225, 256, 289, 324, 361, 400.

Tip: the chart is symmetrical. 3 × 7 and 7 × 3 sit in mirror positions, so there are only about half as many facts to learn.
